Botanical name: Myristica fragrans
Habitat: This plant is native of Moluccas, now cultivated in many tropical countries. In India it is grown in Madras and Southern India State or where the climate is sufficiently hot and moist.

  • Rasa (taste): Pungent, Bitter
  • Virya (action): Heating
  • Vipaka (post digestive effects): Pungent
  • Doshas (constitution): Balances Vata and Kapha.

Nutmeg is widely used as a spice for cooking purpose. Nutmeg helps in regulating digestive system. Nutmeg has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. It also helps in the circulation of blood.
